Dev Blog #63 – What’s in the Box?

Greetings everyone!

Today’s post is going to come off as a bit more matter-of-factly than others, as I’m currently working full speed on the new update. Let’s just jump right in!

Steady progress since last week, and we’re still aiming for the end of April for a proper release!

Today I simply wanted to talk about what exactly will be in Update 6.1, an update that will be focusing primarily on Penny.

New Serum Routes

Not only will Penny be getting new serum routes in this update, but she will be defining a new standard of how serums will be applied to other characters. Rather than moving down a linear list of options, you’ll be presented with choices at various points in the route. From there, you’ll be able to choose how you want to dose the characters, ultimately resulting in one of eight different outcomes for any given character!

Update 6.1 will only be applying this system to Penny, and will only introduce the MCS-1 and MCS-2 tiers of serum events, resulting in a total of 14 serum events for Penny in this update.

New Personal Character Arc

Another initiative that will be getting applied to all characters, starting with Penny, is a personal character arc that runs parallel to the serum system. To be clear, this means an optional progression path that will not rely on serums.

In Penny’s case, this means a fleshing out of her romantic options. Your first date with Penny will be an actual date complete with character development. Once you’ve reached Chapter 3, a follow up event will occur, resulting in a second date with more potentially impactful decisions to make. You’ll have to wait until Chapter 4 to see the conclusion of these events!

Also of note is that as part of this update I’ve written in new functionality to allow the player to wake up in places other than their own bed!

Existing Content Cleanup and New Events

Many of the current scenes with Penny are getting touched up to account for the new serum options, as well as her current relation state with John. This should add a lot more flavor when going down different serum routes.

Additionally, we’ll be introducing a number of new conversations and random events that can occur as a result of the new serum routes. On top of that, introductory content with John has been revised to add some needed clarity.

The Comment Engine

Update 6.1 will introduce the functional foundation of the new comment engine, as well as early implementation. While full implementation isn’t scheduled to go live until 6.2, you’ll at least get a taste of what’s to come.

That’s it for this week. We’re making steady and increasingly rapid progress on getting Update 6.1 into the wild, and I’m excited for everyone to see the new content! As always, thank you all for your continued feedback and support!
